July 2024

I hope everyone had the chance to enjoy the Independence Day holiday with family and friends. Thanks to all of you who called in your orders early so our staff could adjust to the mid-week holiday and help minimize the added pressure that the short work week brings. I’d also like to thank all of you who returned your propane contracts by the end of June. With a short window of when contracts are mailed to when they are due back, we really appreciate your patience and support. If reading this reminds you that your contract is still sitting on the kitchen table, just pick up the phone and call the energy office nearest to you. Our friendly staff will be glad to take care of you. On behalf of our energy team and everyone at your cooperative, thank you for choosing us to serve your propane needs again this year.

After 13 years of hosting the annual River Rumble tractor pull in Mazomanie, Premier is turning this event over to the Mazomanie Fire Department as the new lead promoter. In 2011 Dan Durst, Premier’s Mt Horeb agronomy manager, had the idea to host a Premier sponsored tractor pull. The first few years saw large crowds packed into the old rickety bleachers at the park in Mazo to cheer on the pullers. The event soon grew into the River Rumble with new grandstands hosting over 2,500 fans for one evening in July each year. While tens of thousands of dollars would be donated back to the park from ticket sales over its 13-year run, Dan had one demand……kids would always get in free. Thank you, Dan, for your time and dedication, and making this a family event that Premier has been proud to be part of. I’d also like to thank our team of employees and customers that worked so hard over the years to prepare the track and take care of things behind the scenes so the fans could have a great show. I encourage everyone that has supported Dan and Premier over the years to continue to support the Mazomanie Fire Department as they take the lead on this family friendly event.

The month of July will be busy with agronomy plot and educational events. The agronomy plots offer an excellent opportunity for our staff to receive hands-on training with products and services that will have the greatest impact on conditions that are happening in the field today. From the benefits that mid-season nitrogen applications can provide to calculating the return on investment of fungicide applications, your agronomists have been armed with the latest tools and techniques to help you maximize your yields this fall. Please don’t hesitate to contact one of the competent Premier agronomists near you for more information or to schedule a private tour of an Answer Plot near you.

As we enter the last few months of our fiscal year, I’d like to thank all of you who have kept your charge account at the cooperative within our credit terms. I can’t stress enough how important it is to your company that all the previous month’s charges are paid in full by the end of the month after they are purchased. It’s the cash flow we depend on to pay our suppliers, make payroll, and reinvest in your cooperative. I understand that it takes a lot of work to keep your account current, and it is very much appreciated.

Have a great month.

As we finish out the year, most of you have completed a successful harvest, spending many hours in the combine or grain cart. During that time, you likely reflected on a few different things. The first thing being how your crop progressed from seed to harvest. You may have considered factors such as stands, emergence, early season weed control, insect impact, nutrient deficiencies, and nitrogen loss. During harvest, you might have noticed issues like rootworm damage, stalk quality, weeds, and disease pressure. The big question is whether these factors affected your yield and how to improve your crop management next year. There may be many answers to that question but one that we can offer is to contact your Premier Cooperative Agronomist. With training, field experience and technology our team has the knowledge and resources to help achieve your goals next year.

I’m writing this newsletter the week of Thanksgiving. I hope you all had a happy Thanksgiving Day with family and friends. I spent last weekend sitting in my tree stand that I affectionately call the Iron Maiden. It isn’t named after the rock group but the medieval torture device. I didn’t get a deer, but I sure got a sore back.
